THE BASICS

What are the Total Mom Recognition Awards?

The Total Mom recognition Awards celebrate Canadian mom entrepreneurs who are building remarkable businesses across 11 categories, from financial independence and tech innovation to food, sport, sustainability, and beyond borders. Each award is sponsored by a leading Canadian or national brand and comes with a prize package and PR recognition for the winner. This is a national program designed to amplify the stories of outstanding women entrepreneurs juggling motherhood while building something epic.

Who is eligible to apply?

  • You identify as a mom (caregiver, biological, adoptive, step, or chosen family)
  • You are the founder or co-founder of an active business
  • Your business is based in Canada or operated by a Canadian resident
  • You meet the specific criteria outlined for the category you are applying to

Some categories have additional requirements. For example, the Trailblazer Award requires $2M+ in lifetime business revenue, and the Emerging Founder Award is open only to businesses 2 to 4 years old. Check the eligibility snapshot at the top of each category brief before applying.

Is there a cost to apply?

Yes — applications are $197 CAD per submission.

The exception is the Trailblazer Award, which is free to enter. Individuals may self-nominate or be nominated by someone else at no cost.

Can I apply for more than one award?

Yes. You can apply to as many categories as you like. Each application requires a separate submission fee, so there is a cost to consider. We also encourage you to think strategically: a focused, well-considered application in one or two categories will almost always make a stronger impression than a broader approach. The judges are looking for the best version of your story, so rather than applying to every category you qualify for, ask yourself where your business truly shines brightest and lead with that.

Can anyone on my team submit my business or company?

Anyone on your team, with your permission, can submit on your behalf. Finalists will be notified via email. The founder or co-founder will be notified via email.

The Trailblazer Entrepreneur Award (Award #2) is the only nomination-based category. Nominations can be submitted by the founder herself, a lead executive, or a PR and communications representative and should demonstrate that the nominee meets the published criteria. All other awards are self-nominated and applied for directly.

My business is a side hustle or part-time — can I still apply?

Absolutely. Many of the most compelling mom entrepreneur stories start as side hustles. As long as your business is active and you can speak to real traction, customers, revenue, or growth, you are eligible. There is no minimum revenue threshold unless specifically stated in the category criteria.

THE APPLICATION PROCESS

Where do I start an application?

Applications are submitted online at APPLICATION LINK. You will be asked to select your category, answer the application questions for that category, and provide some basic information about yourself and your business. The entire process is designed to be completed in one sitting, though you are welcome to save your progress and return.

How long will my application take to complete?

Depends on how often you apply for other awards or the copy you already have saved about your business. Plan for approximately 1 hour per category application, depending on how deep you go. Each category has 5 application questions, with word limits of 200 to 600 words per question. We recommend drafting your answers in a separate document first so you can review and refine before submitting.

Can I edit my application after I submit it?

The applications close on October 15th, 2026. After the deadline, no changes can be made. We recommend reviewing your application carefully before final submission. Unless there is an extension, no further changes can be made.

What supporting materials do I need to submit?

The application questions are the core of your submission. Depending on the category, you may also be asked to provide basic business information such as your business name, website, and years in operation. Any supporting document requirements will be outlined in the application form. You do not need to submit a business plan, financial statements, or a pitch deck unless specifically requested. You may want to submit photos, decks, or marketing materials to support your application.

THE CATEGORIES

How do I know which category is right for me?

Start with the eligibility snapshot at the top of each category brief. It's a quick 4-point checklist designed to help you self-qualify in under a minute. From there, read the Award Description and ask yourself: Does this feel like my story? The best applications come from founders who genuinely see themselves in the category, not from founders trying to fit themselves into one.

What if my business fits more than one category?

This is common. Choose the category where your story is the most compelling and the fit is the strongest. For example, a food entrepreneur who also exports internationally could apply for either the Food & Culinary Award or the Global Expansion Award. The right choice is whichever one better captures what makes your business remarkable. You may also apply for both if you are eligible for each, which gives you a better shot.

I'm an early-stage founder. Are any of these awards for me?

Yes. The Emerging Founder Award (Award #11) is designed specifically for mom entrepreneurs who are 2 to 4 years into building their business. You don't need to be generating millions in revenue, but you should have meaningful traction to speak to — paying customers, measurable growth, or a milestone that shows your business is real and moving forward. What matters is clarity of vision, demonstrated momentum, and a compelling story about where you've been and where you're taking this.

The Trailblazer Award says it's nomination-based. How does that work?

The Trailblazer Entrepreneur Award operates differently from the other categories. Nominations can be submitted by the founder herself, a lead executive, or a PR and communications representative and should demonstrate that the nominee meets the published criteria. A selection committee reviews all nominations to identify finalists, who are then contacted and invited to complete a more detailed submission. Full nomination details and the nomination form are available at [NOMINATION LINK].

Can a business that has won a previous Total Mom Pitch award apply again?

Previous winners may apply in a different category from the one they previously won. You may not apply for the same category you have already won. Previous finalists who did not win may reapply in the same category.

THE QUESTIONS & WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

What are the judges looking for in a strong application?

  • Authenticity  |  Your real story, not a polished press release
  • Clarity  |  A clear picture of your business, what you've built, and why it matters
  • Evidence  |  Specific examples, milestones, numbers, or moments that show real traction
  • Heart  |  The human story behind the business, especially as a mom entrepreneur
  • Fit  |  A genuine connection between your story and the category you are applying for

Do I need to be a strong writer to apply?

No. The judges are reading for your story and your substance, not your grammar. Write the way you would talk to a friend who believes in you. If English is not your first language, you are welcome to have someone help you edit your answers for clarity, as long as the ideas and stories are genuinely your own.

What if I don't have impressive numbers to share?

Numbers are one way to demonstrate traction, but not the only way. A loyal community of 200 customers who come back every week is compelling. A single partnership that opened a new market is compelling. Your first sale to a stranger who found you online is compelling. Tell us what real looks like for your business right now, and let the judges evaluate from there.

Can I write about struggles or failures in my application?

Yes, and we encourage it. Some of the most powerful applications will come from founders who are honest about what went wrong, what it cost them, and how they kept going. Resilience is a core part of what we are celebrating across every category. There are no wrong answers here.

Are there word limits on the application questions?

Yes. Each question has a maximum word count, ranging from 200 to 600 words, depending on the question. These limits are listed in the application form and in the Category Brief for each award. You do not need to hit the maximum; a shorter, sharper answer is always better than a long one that loses focus.

JUDGING & SELECTION

How are winners selected?

Each category is judged by a panel of judges with relevant expertise in the award's industry or subject area. Judges review all applications independently and score them against the published criteria for that category. Scores are then reviewed collectively to identify finalists and select a winner. The judging process is blind to sponsorship. Judges evaluate applications on merit, not on brand alignment.

Will I find out if I am a finalist?

Yes. Finalists will be announced live and via press release on November 17, 2026. Following the announcement, finalists will be contacted directly with the next steps and any additional details required. All applicants will be notified once the full judging process is complete.
